Site Analysis and Housing Proposal

Using mappings of water flow and light on the site of Laguna and Fell St. in San Francisco, I deployed modules to begin to develop a strategy for housing units on the site. Modules can begin to become inhabited or used to house vegetation or hold water.

Revised Light and Water Modules

Revising the modules to a more dynamic form, it still has the ability for water capture, water flow, and light exchange. Modules can also begin to become inhabited as well as act as housing for vegetation and for holding water.

Precedent Study: Friedrichstrasse Apts.-OMA

The Friedrichstrasse apartments in Berlin are related to its historic site near Checkpoint Charlie and the old dividing line between the East and the West of the former Berlin Wall. The arrangement of apartments and the spaces are directly related to its historic background through its load-bearing walls that span from East to West and rest on columns on the lower floor. On the West side of the building lies roof top gardens and a series of terraces while the East facade facing the street is a straight black facade with windows and slight variations and materials in the facade.

12 Square Matrix Aggregates

A 12 square matrix of possible aggregates from Modules A, B, and C which allow different percentages of water to be held and different amount of light exchange according to the spacing of the modules.

Revised Module

A series of modules dictating fluctuations of light and the capacity of water that can be held. A revision of the previous modules.

SURFACE MODULE

A surface module that provides protection and enclosure and regulates environmental effects such as light exchange and water permeability.

This is the first pass at using Rhino Modeling operations to make this module.
